One-Trick Phony is me, David Blanchard. I write all the songs and play all the instruments.

I was in the bands Likewise from 2001-2004 and Camera Shy Paparazzi from 2002-2005.  Then I stopped making music for 15 years.

In April 2020, I decided to make the most of my time during quarantine and started writing & recording again. It was my Wilhelm scream into the darkness.  

I released my debut solo album as One-Trick Phony, Everything is Terrible and Nothing Matters, six months later in October 2020. 

The sophomore slump consisted of two albums, Good Grief and Life of the Party, released simultaneously in March 2021.

My fourth album, More, was released in June of 2021. 

V (a.k.a. DENIHILISM) was released in October of 2021 thereby completing the goal of releasing five albums within one year.

Starting on April Fools Day of 2022, I released one new cover song each week for 15 weeks. These cover songs were specifically covers of pop songs by female artists we've all heard a million times and who have voices I could never hold a candle to, but the intention was to reimagine these songs and cover them in a way that they sound new again. This cover series, lovingly called "Hits X Misses," has been collected in a playlist available here.

A surprise EP of holiday covers (and one original) called Rebel Without a Claus was released in December 2022.
